Determining the equation of state of dark energy from angular size of compact radio sources and X-ray gas mass fraction of galaxy clusters

چکیده
Using recent measurements of angular size of high-z milliarcsecond compact radio sources compiled by Gurvits, Kellermann & Frey (1999) and X-ray gas mass fraction of galaxy clusters published by Allen et al. (2002,2003), we explore their bounds on the equation of state, ωx ≡ px/ρx, of the dark energy, whose existence has been congruously suggested by various cosmological observations. We relaxe the usual constraint ωx ≥ −1, and find that combining the two databases yields a nontrivial lower bound on ωx. Under the assumption of a flat universe, we obtain a bound −2.22 < ωx < −0.62 at 95.4% confidence level. The 95.4% confidence bound goes to −1 ≤ ωx < −0.60 when the constraint ωx ≥ −1 is imposed.

Constraints on dark energy from Chandra observations of the largest relaxed galaxy clusters
We present constraints on the mean dark energy density, ΩX and dark energy equation of state parameter, wX, based on Chandra measurements of the X-ray gas mass fraction in 26 X-ray luminous, dynamically relaxed galaxy clusters spanning the redshift range 0.07 < z < 0.9. Under the assumption that the X-ray gas mass fraction measured within r2500 is constant with redshift and using only weak prio...
متن کاملExploring the Energetics of Intracluster Gas with a Simple and Accurate Model
The state of the hot gas in clusters of galaxies is investigated with a set of model clusters, created by assuming a polytropic equation of state (Γ = 1.2) and hydrostatic equilibrium inside gravitational potential wells drawn from a dark matter simulation. Star formation, energy input, and nonthermal pressure support are included. To match the gas fractions seen in non-radiative hydrodynamical...
متن کاملChandra observations of dying radio sources in galaxy clusters ⋆
Context. The dying radio sources represent a very interesting and largely unexplored stage of the active galactic nucleus (AGN) evolution. They are considered to be very rare, and almost all of the few known ones were found in galaxy clusters. However, considering the small number detected so far, it has not been possible to draw any firm conclusions about their X-ray environment. Aims. We pres...
متن کاملNew constraints on dark energy from the observed growth of the most X-ray luminous galaxy clusters
We present constraints on the mean matter density, Ωm, the normalization of the density fluctuation power spectrum, σ8, and the dark-energy equation-of-state parameter, w, obtained from measurements of the X-ray luminosity function of the largest known galaxy clusters at redshifts z < 0.7, as compiled in the Massive Cluster Survey (MACS) and the local BCS and REFLEX galaxy cluster samples. Our ...
متن کاملAccurate Realizations of the Ionized Gas in Galaxy Clusters: Calibrating Feedback
Using the full three-dimensional potential of galaxy cluster halos (drawn from an N-body simulation of the current, most favored cosmology), the distribution of the X-ray emitting gas is found by assuming a polytropic equation of state and hydrostatic equilibrium, with constraints from conservation of energy and pressure balance at the cluster boundary. The resulting properties of the gas for t...
